RETURNING TO WHERE IT ALL STARTED !

On Saturday August 29th, the West End  participated in the 56th annual Schuylkill County Volunteer Firefighters Convention Parade hosted by the Tamaqua Fire Department. Despite the rainy skies, over 200 pieces of fire apparatus, plus several dozen bands, marching units, and  civic organizations put their best on display. This year's parade was a milestone for the company as for the 10th consecutive year  the current Rescue 993 was awarded 1st Place in the Heavy Rescue category. The first time R993 won was in 1999 when Tamaqua last hosted the event,  the unit was brand new and just placed into service. Our marching unit was awarded second place in the Fire Company Unit with Music Category.  Also, our excellent band that provided us with music, the Exeter High School Band of Reading, was awarded 1st place in the High School Band category.  Below are some photos of the event, courtesy of Vicki Kuropatsky.

STATE CERTIFICATION ACHIEVED!

After nearly 3 years of upgrading equipment, thousands of hours training, and endless amounts of paperwork Rescue 993 is now recognized and PA State Certifed as a Heavy Rescue.  The apparatus was inspected for over 6 hours by a representative from EMS Council and we passed with flying colors! We are only one of two rescue companies in Schuylkll County to acheive this status. The other being Yorkville Rescue 63 of Pottsville. In fact there are only a handful of companies in the Commonwealth who have met the standards. Thanks to all members who helped in any way to meet and exceed this goal.
