MVA May 10, 2008

 

While enroute to Polish American Tanker 759 Housing in Shenandoah, the West End was dispatched to assist Fire Districts 43 and 44 at an MVA on SR 924 Northbound at the Gilberton ramp. Rescue 993 and Rescue 469 responded, assisting with paitent removal and traffic control. also on scene was Tuscarora Engine 27-17, which was also enroute to the Housing, Conntinental Engine 44-15, Mahanoy Plane Squad 44-70, GoodWill Engine Rescue 43-10, Frackville EMS, and Shenandoah ALS.

MVA February 22, 2008

Working along with Columbia Shenandoah Engine 742, West End personnel worked nearly an hour to extricate the victims of a minivan on its side resting in snow.The entire roof of the van had to be removed in order to safely removand package the occupants. One of the paitents was then airlifted to a nearby trauma center. Polish American Engine 749, Shenandoah Medic 64, and Lost Creek Ambulance 917 also on scene.

BUSY START TO 2008

January 2008 had been a busy one for Station 5, responding to 21 calls, including structure fires in Mahanoy City, Shenandoah, Altamont, and Ashland. The most serious being the Ashland fire, involving mutilple structures and  the loss of 2 young children. Rescue 993 responded along with Humane Engine 451 as part of MCFD RIT. Besides providing RIT functions, our company  threw ground ladders, advanced hoselines to the 2nd floor and roof, and manned a portable deluge gun. Rescue 993's light tower and cascade system were utilized, Below are some photos from the incident.

Auto-Carrier Fire September 12, 2007

 Station 5 was dispatched along with Engine 451 and Tanker 461 to Hillside Auto at the bottom of the Vulcan Hill at the Mhanoy City/Mahanoy Twp. line. Upon arrival an auto carrier along with 2 cars were fully involved and impinging on the service garage. Engine 465's deck gun provided a quick knockdown and gave crews time to deploy hand lines and attack the fire. Foam lines from both engines then extinguished the blaze in about 30 minutes. Tanker 461 supplied Engine 465. Rescue 993 was also on scene for its cascade system and to set up a rehab area. Below are some photos from the call.


Industrial Accident August 1, 2007

About 1300 HRS West End Rescue 993 was called to assist at an industrial accident with heavy entrapment at a mining site about 1 mile off the Burma Road just outside of Saint Clair.A mechanic utility truck had been run over by a Euclid dump truck, severly crushing it and pinning the driver underneath the frame. Personnel from Rescue 993, in a joint effort with crews from Yorkville Rescue 63 and Ryan Twp. Rescue 26, worked feverishly for nearly 3 hours in temeratures over 90 degrees, to free the driver, who is currently in critical condition at Lehigh Valley Hospital. Other emergency services on scene were Alert St Clair Engine 701, Columbia St.Clair Engine 702, Diners Hill Tanker 8-31, GoodWill Pottsville Engine 41, St Clair EMS, Frackville EMS, Pottsville/Schuylkill Haven ALS, MedEvac 7, and Schuylkill Valley EMS Leesport Rehab.
