VEHICLE ACCIDENT I-81 JANUARY 26 2010

Just after 11:00 hours, Rescue 993,  along with Engine 451 & Engine 451 and Mahanoy City EMS were dispatched to a multi-vehicle accident at the MM130 North on I-81. All occupants were out of their vehicles and only a minor injury. However traffic was at a complete standstill until PSP and the towing service could remove the vehicles and debris. Units remained on scene for just about 1 hour.

STRUCTURE FIRE SHENANDOAH HEIGHTS JANUARY 19 2010

At 04:56 HRS Station 5 was dispatched to a structure fire on Indiana Avenue in the Shenandoah Heights section of West Mahanoy Township. Chief 881 requested Rescue 993 for air/lighting. West End firefighters also relieved some of the crews from the 1st alarm and performed overhaul.

STRUCTURE FIRE SHEHANDOAH JANUARY 15 2010

Just before noon, Station 5 was dispatched to 415 West Atlantic Street in Shenandoah for a working structure fire. Chief 740 sent Engine 465's crew to the attic to assist Shenandoah firefighters with supression. Rescue 993's crew performed exterior operations, overhaul,  and filled scba cylinders. Both units were on scene for nearly 2 hours.


STRUCTURE FIRE MAHANOY CITY DECEMBER 19 2009

Around 08:30 hrs, the Mahanoy City Fire Department was dispatched to a working structure fire at 618 East Pine Street in the borough.Upon arrival, firefighters were greeted with one home fully involved and threatening to spread to several others. West End firefighters, along with other MCFD personnel, began an agressive attack both interior and exterior. Chief Gavala ordered another crew from Station 5 to utilize Ladder 457 and vent the fire, making a trench cut on the western side. Engine 465 had established a water supply and was in position to feed Ladder 457 if the operation had to go defensive. Thanks to the swift actions by all on scene, that did not happen. Engine 465 remained on scene until nearly 14:00 hrs, doing overhaul and assisting Chief 450 with the investigation.

STRUCTURE FIRE ASHLAND DECEMBER 2 2009

At 10:58 hours, Station 5 was dispatched along with several other companies in Schuylkill County, to a working fire involving multiple structures in the 1300 block of West Centre Street in Ashland.
Shortly after arrival, a RIT staging area was establsihed in the front of the incident and a size-up was done. Pottsville FD was assigned RIT to the rear of the incident. After conferring with Chief 38, West End crews
placed ground ladders and manuvered hoselines. Rescue 993 returned to station after 15:30 hours.




STRUCTURE FIRE FRACKVILLE NOVEMBER 29 2009

Just before 1500 hours, Mahanoy City Fire Dept RIT was dispatched to a structure fire on South Lehigh Avenue in Frackville. West End personnel were assigned by Chief 43 to perform RIT duties.
Jobs performed included the placement of ground ladders on all four sides of the structure, and utilities control. Rescue 993 returned to station around 17:30 hours.

LOCUST RIDGE WINDMILL TURBINE FIRE MAY 14 2009

  

 

  

Station 5 was dispatched to an unknown type fire on the Locust Ridge Energy Property located on SR339 near Brandonville at 13:28 hours. Both Chief 455 and Chief 466 arrived on scene to confirm a working fire in a windmill hub some 250 feet in the air. Tower 456 was also dispatched to the scene, as well as Altamont RIT, DCNR, and a Tanker Task Force. After establishing a staging area, hot zone, and confirming that the facility was in lock out/tag out mode,it was decided to let the structure burn itself out and monitor the surrounding area for fires started by falling embers. Engine 465 and Rescue 993 remained on scene until nearly 16:00 hours.
